Field Day 2023

ARRL Field Day 2023 is June 24 and 25.

We have a change in location so check the website for details. 

We had another fun activity night on Wednesday the 29th with about 14 members trying out 10m AM.   The signals were not too strong but the majority of the participants were able to copy all but two or three stations.   Aaron, W6CK reported that this simplex mode gave him the best coverage of the county so far.  The Icom IC-7300 stations with stock microphones had good audio.  The net ran about an hour and a few continued to chat after the conclusion of the net.

Thanks to everyone who able to participate.  The next activity night is already in planing. 

Recommended Cleaning Guidelines for Icom Radios and Accessories


In response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Icom is providing recommended cleaning guidelines for Icom radios and accessories.

Cleaning

  1. Turn off the radio to avoid heat generation or a malfunction.
  2. Apply over-the-counter isopropyl alcohol, with a concentration of 70% to 80% diluted with water, on a soft, dry cloth and gently wipe down the surfaces of the product.
      a. Do not apply or spray the solution directly on the product, or soak it in the solution.
      b. Avoid wiping the antenna or the transparent acrylic plate of the display as much as possible since rubbing alcohol can damage resin parts.
  3. Make sure that the product batteries are sufficiently dry before using or charging them.
Do not use bleach or detergents, even if diluted. It may cause damage or deterioration.

IMPORTANT

  1. We recommend disinfecting your hands before and after using the product.
  2. We do not guarantee compatibility with all rubbing alcohols. We recommend that you first try it on an inconspicuous part of the product.
  3. Carefully read the precautions for rubbing alcohol before using it.
  4. In the unlikely event that the product is damaged, or malfunctions due to rubbing alcohol, the cost of repairs or replacement of parts may be borne by the customer.

Regular Care (Dirt Removal)


Wipe the product off with a soft, dry cloth. If it is extremely dirty, wipe it with a soft cloth moistened with water. Never use detergent or organic solvents (thinner, benzine, and so on). It may cause damage, paint peeling, or deterioration.

Our April meeting was held via ZOOM.  We had nearly 40 members and visitors in attendance for the meeting.  The president, Bob W1RH kicked things off and then Nancy gave a quick treasurers report and took a roll call of those in attendance.

Our main speaker was John, K6MM a veteran of several DXpeditions.  He gave his account as a member of the K1N 2015 Navassa Island DXpedition.  Navassa is a United States island located in the Caribbean Sea and was the site of a major Guano mining operation for many years. Now Navassa is a protected National Wildlife Refuge.

We held our second club activity night on Wednesday the 22nd of April.  We tried out the AG6AU 6m Repeater and then 6m FM simplex on 52.525.  When had a total of 17 people participate in the activity.  On simplex we had on check in from Volcano and two from Roseville and the rest from El Dorado County.   Tony, W6QA had the big signal that all could hear.  Some stations had horizonal polarization and some were running vertical.  It was a fun night and few figured out how to program their radios for 6m  repeater use.
