Several club members took a tour of the 2,029 ft KOVR transmitter tower located in Walnut Gove, California. The tour was hosted by Bob, W1RH. It is the tallest stucture in California and provides the OTA TV signal for KOVR Channel 13 in the Sacramento / Stockton area. Every ham dreams about having a tower like this!

Nice turnout for the October meeting. A few of the members gave their impressions about Pacificon and showed off some new treasures they found at the conference. Bob, W1RH gave a talk about his DXpediton for the 2018 CQP contest using a very remote Air B&B. One of the meeting participants went home with a new tri-band handheld radio after the raffle.
The El Dorado County ARC supported the Garden Valley Youth Expo on Sunday, October 15th. The club has been supporting the Youth Expo for over a decade. We bring the ARES trailer and raise up the big mast to support the HF antenna. Inside the trailer we have all the radios buzzing with activity and an APRS demonstration. We made several contacts on HF to Pennsylvania and Arizona and Texas and had a few visitors stop by.
Don, AF6ND talking to a few of our visitors.
Phill, KK6YYD explaining HAM radio to another one of our visitors.
At the September meeting club members enjoyed listening to Paul, WS7SAR of El Dorado County Search and Rescue share some stories and how the team uses both Amateur Radio and Public Service Radio in their events. We had some brownies and cookies to share while we waited for the raffle that contained a few SOTA themed prizes.
Next meeting is October 25th.
